Star Wars – obaly dílů série

Star Wars games began in 1983 with an Atari arcade cabinet that rendered the Death Star trench run in pure vector graphics and still stands among the most elegant translations of a film into play. Eight-bit home computers such as the Atari 800 and the Commodore 64 then received the Hoth battle and the Death Star assault, setting the rhythm that has followed the licence for decades: every film meant a wave of games, every platform its own version. No single genre ever defined the series — the atmosphere did. The unmistakable hum of a lightsaber, the roar of ion engines and the feeling of sitting in the cockpit of something you know from the screen.

The true golden age arrived in the nineties under the LucasArts banner. The space simulators X-Wing and TIE Fighter on DOS proved the licence could carry a demanding game for adults, Dark Forces and Jedi Knight moved the brand into first-person shooting, and Rebel Assault mined the new CD-ROM hardware. Consoles ran their own line, from Super Star Wars through Rogue Squadron to Bounty Hunter on the PS2 and Lego Star Wars, which retold the whole mythology with a grin. TIE Fighter, Knights of the Old Republic and Jedi Knight II are the titles most often named as peaks — each showed that a film licence can also be a first-rate game in its own right. Jedi: Fallen Order, released in 2019, is the modern continuation of that tradition.
