The pinnacle of the simulation series on Xbox 360; the Autovista mode is narrated by Top Gear's Jeremy Clarkson.

Forza Motorsport 4 is considered by many fans to be the pinnacle of the simulation series on the Xbox 360, thanks to a balanced ratio of content scope and technical execution. The game offered hundreds of cars and a wide range of tracks, and above all a refined Autovista mode allowing a detailed inspection of selected cars, including commentary from Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson, bringing a licensed collaboration with the popular show. Autovista was controlled by freely moving around the car, opening doors and the hood, and offered an interior view in a level of detail racing games had not previously offered.

The driving physics model was further refined, as was the simulation of tires and road surface, making the game a benchmark for realism on consoles. Differences between individual cars were immediately noticeable both on the wheel and the controller, from the understeering behavior of light hatchbacks to the nervous rear end of powerful rear-wheel-drive cars. The career mode was reworked into a seasonal calendar, offering players a choice of several races and smoothly progressing them into higher car classes. Multiplayer offered a sophisticated ranking system and club races that kept an active community going for several years, while the livery editor and photo mode let players create works of art on virtual car bodies. Steering wheel support and finely tuned force feedback also made Forza 4 a favorite choice for players with a home racing rig, to whom the game conveyed surprisingly readable information about what was happening under the wheels.

Critics especially praised the depth of the difficulty settings, the sound design of engines recorded from real cars, and the overall precision of the simulation. Forza Motorsport 4 became the series' commercially most successful entry on the Xbox 360 and cemented Turn 10 Studios' reputation as a top-tier racing game developer. Its legacy is visible in later entries in the series, which built on the established systems of Autovista and in-depth vehicle physics simulation.
