A risky leap into the first-person perspective; a slow, atmospheric exploration style.

Samus's risky move into first person, which turned out brilliantly. Instead of a classic shooter, Metroid Prime offers slow, atmospheric exploration of the planet Tallon IV, scanning the environment and gradually unlocking abilities in true metroidvania spirit. The gorgeously crafted environments, ingenious sound design and sense of loneliness make it one of the highlights of the entire generation. The visor that fogs up with steam or reflects Samus's face during an explosion is one of the most memorable details of the era.
