Colorful platforming adventure full of wordplay and new fist-powered abilities.

Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc brought the limbless hero Rayman back into a platforming adventure full of colorful worlds, grotesque enemies, and humorous storytelling packed with wordplay. This time, the player faced an army of so-called Hoodlums who had taken control of the local inhabitants' minds, gradually collecting upgrades for Rayman's iconic fist that allowed for ranged attacks and special abilities. The level design built on classic platforming dexterity combined with action sequences and occasional logic puzzles scattered across the game's various colorful worlds.

On Xbox, the game excelled with colorful graphics, smooth animation, and a distinctive visual style for each world, from tropical jungles to industrial environments full of machines and moving platforms. The humor running through the entire game, including the characters' witty lines and parodies of genre clichés, was one of its main draws and set it apart from the more seriously toned action platformers of that console generation. The controls remained precise and accessible, ideal both for experienced fans of the genre and complete newcomers, and the music accompaniment nicely underscored the varied mood of the story's individual chapters.

Hoodlum Havoc was very well received critically and is considered one of the best entries in the series, one that successfully brought Rayman into the 3D era after the previous transitional and less clear-cut attempt. The humor, style, and precision of the controls influenced perception of the entire brand for years to come and helped Rayman keep a loyal audience. Today, the game remains a beloved memory of the era of colorful 3D platformers, which placed as much emphasis on fun and atmosphere as on pure game mechanics and the difficulty of individual sections, and fans still gladly and fondly return to its characteristic lines and vibrant, memorable worlds.

Why play it: For fans of colorful 3D platformers with an emphasis on humor and precise controls, whose vibrant worlds and lines players still fondly return to with a smile.
