A sequel to the tactical action set in Iraq; drivable vehicles are new compared to the first game.

Conflict: Desert Storm II: Back to Baghdad follows up on the series' successful debut and sends a four-man special forces squad back to Iraq, this time with an improved mission design and a wider selection of weapons and vehicles. The player again switches between a sniper, a machine gunner, a demolitions specialist, and a rocket launcher operator, but compared to the first game, the ability to drive vehicles was added, opening up new tactical options for advancing through desert and urban terrain. The newly available vehicles, ranging from off-road jeeps to armored personnel carriers, allowed for faster movement across larger maps and opened room for different tactical approaches to individual missions. The squad command system was simplified and made clearer, making the game play more smoothly than its predecessor.

Graphically, the second installment brought a noticeable improvement - more detailed environments, better character models, and more convincing explosion effects, although the technical limits of the original Xbox capped how open individual missions could be. The audio built on authentic weapon effects and a sparse, functional musical score that underscored the wartime gravity of the subject without unnecessary pathos. Split-screen co-op play remained the main draw and was further refined.

Reviews at the time of release praised mainly the improved gameplay and mission variety compared to the first game, though criticism was directed at the still somewhat stiff enemy AI. Back to Baghdad cemented the Conflict series' position as one of its generation's leading tactical action titles on consoles, and together with the Vietnam sequel it formed a trilogy that defined accessible yet team-oriented military action on Xbox. Today the game mainly serves as a reminder of an era when tactical shooters were still finding their way onto game consoles. The second installment also expanded the range of weapons and equipment, letting players tailor their squad to their own playstyle before a mission even began.

Why play it: For fans of team-oriented military action who'll appreciate the expanded selection of weapons and equipment, despite the still somewhat stiff enemy AI.
