The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is an enhanced version of one of the most influential games of the past decade, released alongside the launch of the new console in June 2025. The foundation remains untouched: Link wakes up in a devastated Hyrule with no memory, receives a tablet with a handful of abilities, and then it's entirely up to him where he goes. The world isn't divided into levels or locked chapters; instead it offers one enormous, continuous landscape that can be explored in any order, with physical and chemical rules that apply everywhere the same way.
The gameplay loop rests on curiosity and improvisation. The player climbs a tower, looks around, spots something on the horizon, and heads there; along the way they run into shrines with logic puzzles, enemy camps, cooking ingredients, or one of the four great Divine Beasts. Weapons break, forcing constant tactical changes, heat and cold require the right clothing and food, and the paraglider turns every hill into a launch pad. This very freedom is what made Breath of the Wild the yardstick against which the entire open-world category has been measured since 2017, and its influence shows even in games that have nothing to do with Nintendo.
The Switch 2 version brings higher resolution, steadier frame rates, and HDR support, which helps most with the sprawling vistas and dusk scenes where the original release sometimes lost its breath. The addition is a connection to the mobile Zelda Notes app, which can guide players toward objectives, share progress, and offer companion features away from the console screen. Owners of the original game could purchase a paid upgrade, and the title also came out in a separate boxed edition. Reception was, understandably, very positive, since this is the technically best way to play Breath of the Wild. Even today the game holds up remarkably well, and for new players it remains the ideal entry point into the series' modern era.
