An expanded edition of the first 3D Kirby, set in a melancholic world overgrown with nature.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star-Crossed World is the expanded release of the pink hero's first fully three-dimensional adventure, which came to Switch 2 in 2025. The original game placed Kirby in an abandoned world where nature is overtaking shopping malls, factories, and amusement parks, pairing a melancholy backdrop with utterly carefree gameplay. Kirby inhales enemies, takes on their abilities, and moves through compact levels full of hidden paths and captive Waddle Dees, who gradually bring back to life the small town serving as a hub between worlds.

The biggest draw remains the mechanic where Kirby puts on an entire object from the environment — a car, a giant traffic cone, a vending machine — and it temporarily turns into a completely different game. Add to that upgradeable abilities, arena challenges, and bosses that hit exactly the right difficulty level for family play. The Switch 2 release adds an entirely new story branch called Star-Crossed World, with additional levels, new ability variants, and content aimed at players who already know the original — so this is far more than a cosmetic touch-up of an old game.

Technically the title has moved up to higher resolution and smoother framerates, which especially benefits fast combat and scenes packed with effects. Loading is quick, and the two-player, single-screen mode has been kept. The music ranks among the series' best, alternating brisk drum-driven themes with wistfully beautiful melodies, and building into big orchestral peaks during boss fights. Reception was very positive even for the original version, and the expanded release has only cemented its reputation. Today it's an ideal game for anyone looking for an accessible yet inventive platformer that both children and adults can enjoy, and one that surprisingly works well as a relaxed evening game after work too.
