A classic action platformer where you blast through the Robot Masters' stages and collect their weapons.

Mega Man 7 arrived on the Super Nintendo in the mid-1990s, at a time when the series' 16-bit era already seemed to be winding down – yet it delivered a full-fledged sequel to the iconic action platformer with more striking visuals and bigger, more detailed character sprites. The player once again works through the stages of eight Robot Masters in any order, defeating them and acquiring their weapons, which are then used as a weakness against other bosses – a principle that has remained the series' core since its beginnings. The controls are precise and match what Mega Man fans expect: jumping, shooting, and quick reactions are key to handling the traps and enemies scattered throughout the stages.

Visually, the game benefits from higher sprite resolution and a more colorful palette, made possible by the SNES's more powerful hardware compared to the previous NES entries, giving characters and environments a more three-dimensional, detailed look. The soundtrack continues the series' established tradition – energetic tracks underscoring the pace of each stage and boss fight. Mega Man 7 also introduced new characters and elements that later enriched the series' lore, though in player and critic rankings it often ends up overshadowed by earlier entries due to its slower pace and longer animations.

The seventh installment is thus more a choice for players who already know and love the formula of previous Mega Man games and want to experience it in the SNES's graphical dress, rather than an ideal entry point into the series for complete newcomers.

Why play it: For players familiar with earlier Mega Man games who will appreciate the visual leap to the SNES and don't mind a slower pace compared to its 8-bit predecessors.
