Blade & Sorcery: Nomad
Blade & Sorcery: Nomad is a physics-based combat game in which the player fights waves of enemies with swords, axes, bows, and spells, with everything governed by realistic physics - the weapon reacts to a real swing, enemy bodies respond to physical hits, and even small details like the angle of the blade on a strike affect the outcome of a fight. The game has no traditional story; it's more of a sandbox for experimenting with different weapons and combat styles across various arenas, from medieval castles to fantasy dungeons, and the player can combine weapons in either hand freely, including holding a sword and casting magic at the same time, allowing for unusual combinations of melee and ranged combat, such as throwing daggers with telekinesis in the middle of a sword fight.
Nomad is the standalone version of the original PC VR game Blade & Sorcery, and porting it to Meta Quest required significant simplification of the physics calculations and graphics so everything runs on the mobile chip without a PC connection, while the core feel of the physics-based combat system was preserved. Community mod support has further expanded the game on standalone with additional weapons, environments, and entirely new game modes not offered by the official release on its own. Sessions are usually shorter, focused on individual fights or waves of enemies, and given the intense physical engagement - slashing, throwing, dodging - the game is physically demanding and can cause mild nausea in some players during faster camera movements and quick turns during combat.
Thanks to its open modding system on PC, the game built a strong community, and Nomad brought that popularity to standalone players as well, who appreciated the ability to experience physics-based combat without needing a computer. It's best recommended for players interested in a raw, physical combat system and those who don't mind higher physical demands and open themes of violence with no narrative framing, where the resulting experience is mainly about personal experimentation and technique refinement.
Why play it: For players interested in a raw, physical combat system carried over from PC without needing a computer, who don't mind the higher physical demands or open themes of violence with no story framing.
