After the Fall
After the Fall is a cooperative action shooter set in an alternate frozen Los Angeles, taken over after a nuclear winter by mutated zombies called Snowbreed. Up to four players together face waves of enemies in missions full of exploration, resource gathering, and tactical combat, with each character able to specialize their gear and abilities according to their own playstyle – from supportive skills to aggressive attack equipment, which encourages splitting roles within the team similarly to other cooperative titles.
On Quest, the game offers solid graphical rendering of snow-covered streets and abandoned buildings, though it visibly suffers from the mobile headset's performance limitations compared to the PC version, and some effects are simplified, especially snowfall density and distant landscape views. The soundtrack and dark atmosphere of ruin underscore a sense of permanent threat, especially during night waves, when the number and aggression of enemies sharply increase and players must cooperate to defend their positions. The crafting and weapon-upgrading system on the fly motivates repeated playthroughs of the same missions at higher difficulty and experimentation with different equipment combinations and weapon modifications right between individual attack waves.
The game continues the legacy of zombie shooters like Arizona Sunshine but places greater emphasis on cooperation and RPG elements in the form of experience, character levels, a skill tree, and gear that the player gradually tailors to their playstyle. Upon release, it was praised especially for its fun cooperative experience and variety of weapons, though some players found the story more of a backdrop for the action and the solo-play difficulty unbalanced. It still ranks among the titles that best show how well teamwork functions in virtual reality, and regular updates and new content keep its player community alive long after release.
Why play: For fans of cooperative zombie action with RPG elements, who will appreciate the varied gear and lively community thanks to regular updates, even though solo play remains noticeably harder.
