Arizona Sunshine 2

Akční střílečka (zombie) 2023 Vertigo Games ⏱ Medium · ~3–10 h ⭐ Must-play

A zombie VR shooter set in a flooded wasteland; water serves as both cover and a trap for enemies.

Arizona Sunshine 2 continues the popular zombie shooter series and takes the player to a flooded American wasteland, where alongside buddy Jones and a new canine companion they make their way through ruined cities full of the infected. The game builds on classic VR gunplay – weapons are manually loaded, reloading requires a physical gesture, and melee combat works through real arm swings, so every skirmish with a horde of zombies feels intense and physically demanding. Newly worked into the gameplay is water, which can be used both as cover and as a trap for enemies, and the player can also freely climb over debris or wade through flooded streets instead of simply walking on dry land.

On Quest, the game runs surprisingly smoothly despite a visually richer environment than in the first installment – water surfaces, flooded interiors, and changing weather give the atmosphere a sense of catastrophe, while sunlight reflections on the water and dark underground spaces vary the pacing. Music and sound effects heighten the tension, especially during night missions, when zombies react to light and noise and the player must choose between a quiet approach and an open firefight. The campaign can be played solo or in co-op for up to four players, which increases replayability, and horde wave and survival modes have been added for those who just want to shoot.

Upon release, the game received positive reception especially for its improved graphics, smoother movement, and expanded weapon arsenal compared to its predecessor, though a smaller portion of players complained the story was merely a backdrop for the action. Among zombie shooters on Quest, it ranks among the most polished titles and still serves as an example of how well standard gameplay mechanics suit VR controllers, from two-handed item grabbing to physically searching the pockets of fallen enemies. Even years later, it remains one of the most enjoyable cooperative zombie shooters on the headset and a recommended entry point into the whole series for anyone who has just bought a headset.

Why play: For anyone who has just bought a headset – one of the most enjoyable cooperative zombie shooters, with an improved arsenal and smoother movement compared to its predecessor.
