Room-scale platformer: the player climbs by actually walking around the room, with no virtual locomotion.

Eye of the Temple is a unique platformer that makes full use of room-scale movement — the player literally walks around their room in order to climb platforms, jump across chasms, and operate ancient mechanisms inside a flooded temple inspired by Indiana Jones-style aesthetics and adventure films about lost civilizations. Instead of virtual movement via a joystick, real steps are used, creating an unusual but gripping sense of physical presence in the environment and completely eliminating the risk of motion sickness typical of other VR titles, since the player moves only as much as their body actually moves within the room.

On Quest the game works surprisingly reliably thanks to clever level design that compensates for limited play space with moving platforms, carts, and elevators that transport the player between static parts of the room without them ever having to leave their actual living room. The temple's atmosphere of puzzles, traps, and ancient architecture is reinforced by epic, adventurous music that heightens the feeling of discovering lost spaces and gradually unlocking deeper secrets of an ancient civilization. The puzzles require observing mechanisms, coordinating multiple moving parts, and correctly timing movement rather than quick reflexes.

After release the game was praised as one of the most innovative achievements in VR movement, since it solves the problem of limited play space more elegantly than most competitors relying on teleportation or artificial joystick-controlled movement. Critics particularly praised the creative level design and sense of freedom of movement, which is why Eye of the Temple is among the titles recommended even to players who otherwise suffer from motion sickness and prefer to avoid classic VR locomotion, making it one of the most frequently recommended titles for more sensitive players.

Why play it: For players who suffer from motion sickness and anyone looking for the most innovative solution to movement in VR, thanks to creative level design offering freedom of movement without teleportation or a joystick.
