A prequel to the first installment; proof that psychological horror doesn't need a big screen.

Fog-shrouded alleys, a grinding siren, and the feeling that there is always something behind you in that darkness. Silent Hill: Origins brings one of the most famous horror brands into your pocket and proves that psychological terror does not need a big screen to get under your skin.

As a prequel to the legendary first installment, the game follows the story of truck driver Travis Grady, who gets stranded in the cursed town of Silent Hill. The gameplay honors traditional survival horror: you explore oppressive environments, solve logic puzzles, conserve ammunition, and fight for survival against disturbing monsters. This series was never about action as such — the fear stems from atmosphere, sound, and the uncertainty of what lurks around the corner.

The series was made famous by two key things, and Origins preserves them: the terrifying switching between the „normal" and the rusty, bloody „Otherworld," and the unforgettable sound design. Music and ambient sounds are a full-fledged part of the horror in Silent Hill — the crackle of the radio signaling the proximity of an enemy is among the most iconic audio moments in the history of horror games.

Bringing such an atmospheric experience to the PSP was not a self-evident task, and Origins shows that darkness, fog, and dread work even on a small display — perhaps all the more so when you play alone with headphones. The game offers a more compact but full-fledged Silent Hill experience with everything that belongs to it: a desperate sense of loneliness and confinement.

For survival horror fans as well as for those who want to know the roots of the Silent Hill story, this pocket chapter is an excellent choice. It is not a walk in the park — and that is exactly what you want from it.

Why play it: A full-fledged Silent Hill in your pocket — atmospheric survival horror with iconic sound and terrifying world-switching, ideal for playing in the dark with headphones.
