Real-time tactics set in the Alien universe; command marines against hordes of xenomorphs.

Aliens: Dark Descent is a real-time tactics game from Tindalos Interactive, set in the universe of the Alien film series, in which the player commands a squad of marines defending against hordes of xenomorphs on a colonized planet after a space station crash. Unlike turn-based tactics games, combat unfolds continuously in real time, with the ability to pause at any moment to issue orders, and the game places strong emphasis on managing unit stress, limited ammunition, soldiers' health, and the constant threat of invisible danger lurking in vents and dark corridors nearby.

On PlayStation 5, the game renders the cramped, industrial environments typical of the series with an emphasis on dynamic lighting, flickering fluorescent lights, and deep shadows that heighten the constant sense of threat. The sound design — from the motion tracker's characteristic beeping to the distant thud of xenomorph footsteps around the corner — is a key part of the tension, and the score draws on the atmosphere of the original films by Ridley Scott and James Cameron. Between individual missions, the player manages the mothership, treats wounded soldiers, and decides on equipment for the next dangerous mission to the surface.

Aliens: Dark Descent was received as one of the better game adaptations of the Alien license in recent years, praised especially for its tense atmosphere and tactical depth of decision-making. The game also pulls no punches and can wipe out an entire squad of soldiers without warning, forcing the player to approach units carefully and accept that not every mission has to end in success. Lost soldiers, moreover, remain permanently dead, and the player must command new recruits with lower experience, which adds weight to decision-making even beyond combat itself. For fans of sci-fi horror and tactics games alike, it offers a combination that stands out sharply from most action adaptations of the license through its emphasis on unit vulnerability and careful planning of each individual mission.

Why play it: For fans of sci-fi horror and tactics games who appreciate the tense atmosphere of the Alien license and permanent unit death that forces careful, deliberate command.
