A clumsy policeman and absurd cases full of typically Czech humor; a classic adventure game.

Polda (Cop) is a Czech comedic adventure in which the player becomes a clumsy police officer solving a criminal case full of absurd situations and typically Czech humor, with the investigation leading him through a series of bizarre settings and encounters with eccentric characters. Built on the classic point-and-click principle, the game offers item combining, conversations with a colorful gallery of characters, and a series of funny, often parodic scenes poking fun at police work and the social realities of the time. The gameplay is straightforward and focuses mainly on wit and atmosphere rather than complex logical puzzles, so the game flows briskly and lets the dialogue and situational comedy of individual scenes shine.

The visuals match those of a smaller domestic production from the late nineties — hand-drawn environments and simply animated characters create a distinctive, cartoonish look that fits the game's overall humorous tone and gives each location a recognizable visual identity. Voice acting and sound play a key role in Polda, since much of the comedy rests precisely on the characters' vocal delivery and their catchphrases, many of which entered everyday speech among players of the time and still appear as quotes on fan forums and in the common speech of the generation that played it as children or teenagers.

At the time of its release Polda became one of the most popular domestic titles precisely because of its distinctive humor, easily understood by a Czech audience, which also earned it several sequels. The game is still remembered today as one of the icons of Czech game development in the nineties and an example that success need not rest on technical sophistication but rather on well-aimed humor and a solid understanding of the domestic audience. For many who remember it, Polda remains synonymous with the golden age of Czech adventure games, and it still appears in overviews of the most significant domestic titles of the nineties alongside other comedic classics of the era.
