An ironic text adventure about a programmer trying to loot a gang of thieves' bank account.

Podraz 3 is one of the best-known text adventures by František Fuka, alias Fuxoft, created in 1986 and officially released in 1992 by Proxima – Software v.o.s. The player takes on the role of an unemployed programmer named Tim Coleman, whose task is to track down the password to a gang of thieves' account and transfer the money elsewhere — a plot Fuka delivers with the exaggerated humor typical of the whole series. Like Fuka's previous games, it's a purely text-based game in which the player moves through the world using short commands, examines the surroundings, and solves a series of connected puzzles, needing nothing more than a keyboard and patience.

Podraz 3's strength lies in the humor and exaggeration with which Fuka spiced up an otherwise simple plot framework, as well as the smoothness with which individual situations flow into one another — the player doesn't have to wander a sprawling map but rather progresses fairly linearly from one scene to the next, which made the game accessible even to less experienced text-adventure players. Technically the game requires nothing more than the ZX Spectrum's text mode, so the entire atmosphere rests on Fuka's writing, which his peers valued for its wit and irony, setting it apart from the drier foreign genre templates that rarely reached us at the time.

Within the Podraz series, part three is often cited as one of the high points, followed by the fourth and fifth installments, which together created one of the most recognizable domestic gaming brands of its time. In the context of the era, when importing Western ZX Spectrum games into Czechoslovakia was difficult, Fuka's text adventures represented one of the few domestic alternatives of comparable quality, and they were played by owners of Didaktiks and Spectrum clones across the whole country. Today Podraz 3 is remembered mainly as a showcase of the distinctive humor of nascent Czech game creation and as proof that even a modest text parser could tell a memorable story.
