Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow arrived on GameCube as the second installment of the spy series starring agent Sam Fisher, this time set amid the tension surrounding an impending terrorist attack in Southeast Asia. The game stays true to the original's stealth foundations - moving through darkness, using shadows, and stealthily eliminating or bypassing enemies remains the core of the gameplay, complemented by a tense story full of political intrigue and mistrust among allies.
Compared to the original, new movement options were added, along with more sophisticated interactions with light and sound and a wider range of gadgets and weapons that allow for more approaches to individual missions. The level design emphasizes patience and observation - rushing in usually means a quick end to the mission, while carefully planning your route leads to a quiet and efficient completion of the objective. The game also rewards players who manage to complete a mission without ever being spotted by the enemy, with a rating of their performance at the end of each chapter.
The GameCube version brought over the main single-player campaign without the multiplayer mode that was a key novelty on other platforms. Even so, it offered just as tense and technically accomplished a stealth experience as Splinter Cell had built its reputation on in the early 2000s, and for GameCube owners it was one of the few chances to try the series directly on a Nintendo console. The controls were also successfully adapted to the GameCube gamepad so that stealthy movement remained just as precise as on other platforms.
Why play it: For a sophisticated stealth system where patience and planning matter more than reflexes.
