Naughty Dog – obaly her studia

Naughty Dog is one of the most acclaimed development studios in console gaming history, closely tied to the PlayStation brand, for which it has long developed exclusive titles. It has made its name with several generation-defining series, from the mascot platformer Crash Bandicoot through the action-adventure Jak and Daxter to the prestigious action series Uncharted and The Last of Us, which rank among the most acclaimed and commercially successful games on Sony's platforms. The studio is known for its emphasis on cinematic storytelling, technical sophistication, and continually pushing the boundaries of what the current generation of consoles can achieve graphically and narratively.

History

Naughty Dog was founded before the rise of the PlayStation console and in its early years worked on smaller projects, before fully focusing on collaboration with Sony in the mid-1990s. The first major step toward that partnership was the fighting game Way of the Warrior for the 3DO console, after which the studio moved on to developing for the original PlayStation. A defining milestone came with the platformer Crash Bandicoot, which made Naughty Dog one of the key studios of the first PlayStation generation and turned its title character into an unofficial mascot of the console for a time. The series continued with further installments and the racing spin-off Crash Team Racing.

After the transition to PlayStation 2, the studio replaced Crash with the new series Jak and Daxter, which combined platforming elements with a more open world and, with further entries Jak II and Jak 3, gradually shifted toward a more action-oriented, darker tone, including the racing spin-off Jak X: Combat Racing. This transition demonstrated the studio's ability to leave behind a successful brand and build a new one from scratch, a pattern Naughty Dog would repeat several more times in the years that followed.

The real turning point came with the PlayStation 3 generation, when the studio launched the Uncharted series, an action-adventure inspired by adventure and action films that, thanks to its cinematic storytelling and technical polish, earned great acclaim from players and critics alike starting with the very first installment, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. The series continued with Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception, which further refined the cinematic pacing and technical execution of the games. Building on Uncharted, Naughty Dog then followed with the even more ambitious project The Last of Us, a post-apocalyptic story about the relationship between its two main characters, still considered one of the high points of storytelling in the gaming medium. The studio went on to further develop both series on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, including Uncharted 4: A Thief's End and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, as well as remastered and expanded editions of older titles.

Key figures

Naughty Dog was founded by Andy Gavin and Jason Rubin, who led the studio through its early years and the Crash Bandicoot and Jak and Daxter era. After their departure, Neil Druckmann and Bruce Straley became the key creative figures, directing and writing the Uncharted and The Last of Us series and significantly shaping the studio's emphasis on cinematic storytelling and emotionally resonant characters.

Today

Naughty Dog is today part of Sony Interactive Entertainment and remains one of the flagship development studios of the PlayStation platform. The studio focuses on further developing and maintaining its key brands, above all The Last of Us series, which it is gradually expanding into other media, and continues to hold a reputation as a team that defines the technical and narrative standard for exclusive PlayStation games. Older series such as Crash Bandicoot and Jak and Daxter are no longer developed by Naughty Dog itself, but their legacy lives on through remasters and sequels entrusted to other studios, while Naughty Dog itself remains focused on large, technically and narratively ambitious projects.
