Assassin's Creed – obaly dílů série

Assassin's Creed launched in 2007 from Ubisoft with a concept that fused a historical open world with a science-fiction framing story: through a device called the Animus, the player relives the memories of an ancestor, Altair, while in the "present day" a character named Desmond Miles becomes caught between the secret order of Assassins and Abstergo, a powerful corporation controlled by the Templars. The first game placed Altair in the era of the Third Crusade, moving between Jerusalem, Damascus and Acre, and it established the series' core pillars: free-running across rooftops and towers (parkour), silent takedowns, blending into crowds as a form of stealth, and the idea of a brotherhood of assassins fighting against the tyranny of the powerful. The debut was more proof of concept than a finished whole, with a fairly repetitive mission structure, yet it still became one of the founding titles of the modern open-world stealth genre.

The real breakthrough came with the Ezio Auditore trilogy. Assassin's Creed II (2009) moved the action to Renaissance Italy - Florence, Venice and Forlì - and refined combat, economy and side activities to the point that it became the template for the rest of the series and is still considered by many players to be its peak. Brotherhood (2010) stayed in Rome and added the ability to recruit and send out a whole network of assassins on missions of their own, while Revelations (2011) closed out both Ezio's and Desmond's stories in Constantinople and added simple defensive traps against Templar attacks. Together these three games proved the series could keep an annual release pace while still deepening and expanding its world without losing quality.

Assassin's Creed III (2012) shifted the setting to the American Revolution with Connor Kenway and was the first to introduce naval combat, which Black Flag (2013) then expanded into a full pirate adventure around Edward Kenway in the Caribbean - sailing, diving and sea exploration often overshadowed the assassin plot itself, and many fans still rank it among the series' best. Rogue (2014), released for the older console generation, flipped the perspective for the first time to an Assassin hunter who defects to the Templars. Unity (2014), set in revolutionary Paris and built around co-op play, is remembered instead for its troubled technical state at launch. Syndicate (2015) moved the series to Victorian London and, for the first time, offered a pair of playable siblings, Jacob and Evie Frye.

After a decade of yearly releases, the series changed direction. Origins (2017) set its story in ancient Egypt with the hero Bayek and rebuilt the formula as an action RPG with levelling, loot and a much larger world to explore. Odyssey (2018), set in ancient Greece, pushed that further with branching dialogue and choice-driven storytelling, and Valhalla (2019) added a Viking expansion into England with an extensive settlement-building system. Mirage (2023) was a deliberate return to the smaller-scale, stealth-focused approach of the early games, set in Baghdad around the character Basim, returning from Valhalla.

Beyond the main line, the series spawned numerous spin-offs - the 2.5D Chronicles games set in China, India and Tsarist Russia, Liberation starring Aveline in New Orleans on PS Vita, the PSP title Bloodlines continuing Altair's story, mobile titles such as Identity and Rebellion, a VR entry called Nexus for Meta Quest, and even a feature film in 2016. Assassin's Creed grew into one of gaming's most commercially successful franchises and shaped the modern open-world action genre, even as the quality and reception of individual entries varied considerably from game to game.
