Cyberpunk 2077
Cyberpunk 2077 is a sprawling sci-fi RPG from Polish studio CD Projekt RED set in the dystopian Night City, where the player, as a mercenary named V, builds a career through a combination of shootouts, hacking, and an extensive dialogue system with several distinct paths for solving quests depending on the character's chosen starting lifestyle. The central storyline follows V, into whose mind a digital remnant of the legendary rocker and fighter Johnny Silverhand, portrayed by Keanu Reeves, becomes implanted after a failed heist, gradually taking control of the protagonist's body, creating a unique dynamic of two consciousnesses sharing one body.
Night City itself ranks among the most impressively designed game cities ever: vertical construction, neon advertising, and layers of slum blocks beneath luxury towers create a setting that functions as a character of the story in its own right. The atmosphere is significantly boosted by music split between radio stations and bands created specifically for the game. Most of the experience takes place from a first-person perspective including dialogue, keeping the player inside the scene even in moments of pure conversation.
On Xbox One and Xbox One X, the game's launch was among the most controversial in the history of the games industry due to serious technical issues, frequent crashes, and low frame rates, which led to the game being temporarily pulled from the PlayStation digital store and a public apology from the studio along with refund offers. Subsequent years of intensive fixes, patch 1.5, and the extensive Phantom Liberty expansion with a new story thread and Idris Elba in the lead role fundamentally transformed the game's reputation toward much more positive reception. The core gameplay, built on a deep RPG system of cyberware, hacking, and variable combat styles, remained praised throughout as one of the most ambitious gaming fantasies of the generation, as was the quality of the side quest writing.
