The complete Night City with V and Johnny Silverhand arrived on Switch 2 right at launch.

Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition arrived on Nintendo Switch 2 right on the console's launch day, becoming a symbol of Nintendo's return, after years, to a platform where the big Western blockbusters land. The player takes on the role of V, a mercenary with no past and no guaranteed future, who gets tangled up in a heist for a biochip carrying the digitized personality of the legendary rocker Johnny Silverhand in the megalopolis of Night City. Silverhand settles into V's head and slowly begins overwriting it, which is both the plot and a ticking clock that gives the whole story its urgency. It plays as a first-person shooter with a deep RPG layer on top: you allocate attributes, assemble cybernetic implants, and for every job choose between a loud solution with a shotgun or a silent infiltration through hacked cameras and security turrets. The package also includes the Phantom Liberty expansion, a spy thriller set in the sealed-off district of Dogtown.

The Switch 2 version is particularly interesting from a technical standpoint. Night City is one of the most demanding cities video games have ever built, and porting it to a handheld console showcased what the new hardware can do combined with modern image upscaling. The game offers separate modes for docked and handheld play, gyroscopic aiming support, and Joy-Con mouse-mode controls that surprisingly suit the shootouts well. The atmosphere remains untouched: rainy neon streets, ads flickering through the night, radio stations with their own playlists, and a synth soundtrack that holds the city together better than its corporations do.

Cyberpunk 2077 famously had a troubled launch in 2020 and spent the following years on extensive fixes and an overhaul of its systems. That's exactly why its later release feels like a rehabilitation: a game players initially wrote off became the most-cited example of long-term care for a title actually paying off. Today it's one of the most expansive RPGs you can play on Switch 2, and also a reminder that cyberpunk was never just about neon, but about the people trying to survive in it.
