Call of Duty: Ghosts
Call of Duty: Ghosts launched on Xbox One as a launch title for the console - in North America on November 22, 2013, on the very day the Xbox One itself launched. It includes the complete campaign about the Ghosts unit fighting against a South American federation, a full-fledged multiplayer, the Squads social system, and the cooperative survival mode Extinction. The game was created by Infinity Ward.
As one of the launch titles for Microsoft's new console, the Xbox One version offered higher resolution and frame rate, more detailed textures, and better lighting than the Xbox 360 edition. The game also made use of Xbox One controller features and, in some cases, supplementary voice control via Kinect, though only for menu functions. Thanks to the marketing deal between Activision and Microsoft at the time, players on Xbox One and Xbox 360 got early access ahead of PlayStation and PC players to all four of the game's paid map packs.
In terms of content, the Xbox One version is entirely identical to the Xbox 360 edition and the other platforms; the difference is purely technical. Along with the PlayStation 4 version, the Xbox One edition was among the games where players first fully witnessed the graphical leap between the old and new console generations.
The game's campaign is told mostly from the perspective of brothers Logan and David Walker and their father, a special forces veteran, and emphasizes cinematic, action-oriented sequences, including a space mission and submarine combat. The Xbox One version offers this story structure and all the launch multiplayer maps in the same form as the other platforms, only with higher graphical quality and resolution.
The game also featured a reworked multiplayer engine with dynamic environmental elements, such as collapsing buildings or changing weather, which felt smoother on Xbox One thanks to the power of the new console generation than on Xbox 360. The game's score was composed by Brian Tyler, which applies equally across all release platforms.
Why play it: Thanks to the smoother handling of collapsing buildings and changing weather in multiplayer, as well as Brian Tyler's cinematic score, the game is worth the attention of players moving from Xbox 360 to the new generation.
