An open Paradise City with no loading — you start a race by flooring it at an intersection.

Burnout Paradise Remastered brought an upgraded version of the arcade gem to Xbox One in 2018, having originally launched on the previous console generation. Paradise City is an open city with no loading screens, where you don't start a race from a menu but by pulling up to an intersection and flooring it. The destination is usually all that's marked, the route is entirely up to you, so the game plays out as a constant hunt for shortcuts through construction sites, garage rooftops, and broken fences. Nitro builds up by taking risks — driving into oncoming traffic, drifting, and near-misses — actively rewarding reckless driving over caution.

The second pillar is crashing. The damage model still impresses today: cars crumple on impact, shed parts, and in Showtime mode you can launch a rolling wreck further down the road, chaining destruction into passing traffic. The remaster boosted resolution and frame rate, reworked the textures, and folded in the expansions released for the original, including motorcycles and the summer-themed content, so there's a genuinely huge amount of material here. On Xbox One the game runs fast and clean, which matters more to the driving feel than anything else. The soundtrack blends rock tracks with electronic music, and paired with the radio host's voice it gives the whole thing a relaxed summer vibe.

The original Paradise was controversial at launch for replacing the classic race-selection structure with an open city, and plenty of players resented having to drive to the starting line. Over time, though, it became a benchmark for arcade racing, and the remaster brought it back into the spotlight for a new audience too. Its influence on the genre is visible anywhere open-world racing games combine free driving with instantly triggered events. Today Burnout Paradise still holds up brilliantly, and its sense of speed remains unmatched, making it one of the most entertaining racing choices on Xbox One for anyone who prefers wrecks and shortcuts to the perfect racing line.
