A faithful remake of two skateboarding classics, with the same levels and two-minute pacing.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 arrived on Xbox One in 2020, and it's a remake of two skateboarding classics that turned out better than expected. The game rebuilds the original levels in full, from the warehouse to the school and the airport, keeping their exact layout and objective placement intact. The core gameplay hasn't changed: you get two minutes to complete a set of tasks — collect letters, find the secret tape, hit a score target, or smash specific objects. The whole thing runs on chaining tricks together, where jumps, grinds, manuals, and lip tricks link into one long combo whose value keeps rising until you land wrong.

The controls are tuned to match the later entries in the series, so manuals and reverts are available even in the levels from the first game, enabling combos that simply weren't possible back in 1999. Visually it's a completely new look with modern lighting, materials, and animation, but with layouts faithful to the original, so longtime players get their bearings instantly. On Xbox One the game runs smoothly, which is essential given how tightly timed the tricks are. Much of the soundtrack returned with its original lineup, and the punk and hip-hop tracks are just as vital to the series as the skating itself — without them, the atmosphere simply wouldn't work.

Reviews were very positive, calling it a textbook example of how a remake should be done: keep what worked, fix what had aged, and don't add anything unnecessary. Added modes, challenges, and extensive skater and gear customization options extend the game's life well beyond the campaign itself. It brought the series back into relevance after years of failed attempts and showed once again why its gameplay was so influential. Today it's the best way to play classic arcade skateboarding on Xbox One, and a rare case of a remake being more accessible than the original without losing any of its edge.
