The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners - Chapter 2: Retribution
The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners - Chapter 2: Retribution continues the events of the first game in a flooded, infested New Orleans, where the player, as the Tourist, keeps fighting for survival among decaying Bloaters and rival factions of survivors. The raw, physical melee combat remains the core of the game - weapons are held, swung, and thrust with your own hand, knives must be pulled out of enemies' bodies, and ammo and gear are manually moved between the backpack and the hip holsters, making every encounter, and even ordinary looting, a slow and tense process. The new story expands the map with additional districts and adds new characters, factions, and decisions that affect the direction of the story and the allies available to you.
On PSVR2, the game uses higher resolution and adaptive triggers to make the physical combat feel even more tangible - the resistance when drawing back a crossbow, unlocking weapons, or blocking a zombie's attack feels distinctly different depending on the action. The sound design, with the dark growling of Bloaters, distant gunfire from rivals, and the all-pervading silence of a devastated city, contributes significantly to the oppressive, permanently tense atmosphere the series is known for. Detailed interiors, from flooded basements to barricaded apartments, feel far more claustrophobic in VR thanks to spatial perception than they do on a regular screen.
Chapter 2: Retribution was received as a full-fledged, content-rich expansion of the series that maintained the high bar of physical, tactile combat that has set the series apart from other VR titles since the beginning. Players and reviewers repeatedly noted that having to physically think through every combat encounter - where to step back, which weapon to grab, how much force to put into a swing - makes fighting zombies a far more tense experience than in games with automated controls. The PSVR2 version ranks among the most acclaimed survival horror experiences on the platform and is often recommended to players looking for a longer, more story-rich alternative to faster action titles.
Why play it: For fans of physical, tactile zombie combat who want a longer, more story-rich continuation of one of the most acclaimed survival horror games on PSVR2.
