The Walking Dead: The Final Season

epizodická adventura 2018 Telltale Games The Walking Dead ⏱ Medium · ~3–10 h

The final episodic chapter of Clementine's long journey, which concludes her entire story.

The Walking Dead: The Final Season concludes the long-running game series by Telltale Games based on the comic book source material, focusing on Clementine, the main playable character across virtually the entire series, who has grown from a frightened girl in the first season into a hardened survivor now caring for a young boy named AJ and searching for a safe place for them both to live.

Gameplay-wise, the game continues the studio's tried-and-tested formula – an emphasis on choices in dialogue and key decisions that affect relationships with other characters and the direction of the story, complemented by simpler action sequences and environmental exploration without needlessly complicated controls. The final season also brought minor control tweaks and smoother transitions between scenes compared to earlier entries, but the main emphasis remains on emotionally charged storytelling and the theme of passing on experience and moral values to the next generation, embodied in the relationship between Clementine and AJ, who must gradually take on ever-greater responsibility himself. Development of the season was complicated by the closure of Telltale Games midway through production, as a result of which the final episodes were ultimately completed by a smaller team with support from outside collaborators and the blessing of the comic's creators.

Despite the troubled circumstances of its creation, the final season was received mostly positively by critics, who praised the sensitive and dignified way it managed to close out Clementine's long-running story. For many players who had followed the series since its first episode, the Final Season represents the emotionally strongest and most conclusive chapter in the entire Walking Dead video game brand. The fact that the creators, despite the studio's collapse, still managed to bring Clementine's story to a full, well-thought-out ending instead of a rushed, makeshift wrap-up is still cited today as a remarkable example of determination to finish unfinished work despite adverse circumstances behind the scenes.
