A patient, encyclopedic celebration of cars — from a single vehicle through brand history to tuning.

Gran Turismo 7 brought the series back to where it was strongest: a patient, almost encyclopedic celebration of automobiles. The player starts with one ordinary car and, through a menu of nodes called the Café, completes collection tasks that gradually guide them through the history of individual brands and body-style classes. Around this stretches the familiar structure of license tests, championships, and endless tuning, as you adjust gear ratios, spring stiffness, and tire compound in the garage. The driving model sits somewhere between simulation and an accessible arcade approach: the car feels properly weighty, yet the game offers so many assists that even someone who otherwise doesn't play racing games can find their footing. The economy of collecting is just as important as the driving itself, since every new car unlocks another branch of competitions.

On PlayStation 5 the game shows for the first time what fast storage and controller haptics allow the new console to do. Track loading is a matter of an instant, the DualSense's adaptive triggers mimic brake lock-up and wheel slip, and the haptics convey surface texture and curb impacts. Visually the title combines a sharp, high-resolution image with ray tracing in replays and car showcases, while an alternative mode prioritizes smoothness. Especially notable is the modeling of weather and time of day, where during longer races the track temperature changes and with it the tires' behavior. The soundtrack ranges from calm jazz in the menus to electronic music during races, keeping the series' characteristically soothing tone.

Reception was mixed. Reviewers praised the content, presentation, and technical execution, while part of the player base loudly criticized the reward economy and the requirement for a constant server connection; the studio responded with repeated adjustments and long-term additions of cars and tracks. The game's influence is evident in how it raised the bar for racing-title presentation. Today Gran Turismo 7 feels like a living catalog of car culture you can return to in doses: it offers both the calm of focused tuning and the tension of sharp online championships, and it's one of the strongest arguments for hooking a wheel up to a PlayStation 5.
