Inside is a spiritual successor to Limbo from the same Danish studio, Playdead, and like its predecessor it builds on silent, wordless storytelling. A boy in a red shirt makes his way through a grim, dystopian landscape full of controlled crowds, strange experiments, and dangerous machines, while the player solves environmental puzzles and dodges threats that can end the game in an instant. Unlike Limbo, the world is more colorful and detailed, full of subtle background details that flesh out what kind of society the boy is passing through, but the atmosphere remains just as oppressive and unsettling.
