Based on Herbert's saga; a contemplative adventure on Arrakis combined with a strategy game about spice.

There are games that lodge themselves in the memory not through their mechanics but through their atmosphere — and Dune by Cryo Interactive from 1992 is their flagship. Based on Herbert's monumental saga, an unusually beautiful hybrid emerged: half a contemplative adventure in which, as the young Paul Atreides, you travel across the planet Arrakis, negotiate with Fremen chieftains, and uncover the secrets of the desert; half a light strategy game in which you organize the mining of the precious spice and build a resistance against the cruel Harkonnens.

What elevates Dune above a mere sum of genres is its sensory side. The hand-painted vistas of Arrakis, the smooth transitions between locations, and above all the hypnotic soundtrack by Stéphane Picq create a mood without equal on the Amiga. The game gradually opens up the map, hands you ever more sietches and fighters, and leads you from intimate exploration to a broader campaign against the enemy.

Dune became a cult gem and an interesting historical bridge — it was released practically alongside Westwood's Dune II, which defined the modern RTS. While the "second" one founded the genre, this first Dune remains the more poetic, dreamlike experience that retro gamers still cherish today.
