A port of Snake Eater to 3DS with stereoscopic 3D and camera control via the Circle Pad Pro.

Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D is a port of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater to the Nintendo 3DS handheld, enhanced with a stereoscopic 3D effect and adjusted controls using the Circle Pad Pro for a smoother camera. The player returns to the Cold War of the 1960s as agent Naked Snake, operating in dense jungles and having to combine stealth, camouflage, and improvised combat to evade the attention of enemy patrols and the dangerous wilderness.

The game builds on what was then a new survival-in-the-wild mechanic - hunting and preparing food, treating wounds directly in the field, and using camouflage patterns matched to the surrounding environment - which set it apart from earlier entries set mostly in enclosed bases. Stealth elements remain the core of the gameplay: direct confrontation tends to be risky, so the player is mostly forced to plan their approach, use hiding spots, terrain-matched camouflage, and observe guard behavior patterns before opting for a silent takedown or bypassing a patrol.

The 3DS port preserves the series' cinematic storytelling style, with long, dialogue-heavy cutscenes and a complicated story full of twists and espionage intrigue set against the backdrop of the Cold War. For 3DS owners, it's one of the few ways to play this key series entry directly on a handheld, complemented by a new control scheme using the second analog attachment and minor graphical tweaks compared to the older console versions.

Why play: A complete port of a celebrated Cold War stealth classic to a handheld, with adjusted controls and stereoscopic 3D.
