Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition
Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition is a remastered version of the first-person shooter in which former mercenary Grayson Hunt, along with his band of castaways, survives on a planet full of mutants after taking revenge on his former commander. Excessively vulgar dialogue and bizarre enemies gave the game a distinctive, self-aware tone that stood out sharply from the more seriously toned shooters of its era and never took itself too seriously.
The key gameplay element was the so-called "skillshot" system — a scoring system for creative kills using an energy whip that could pull enemies toward the player or throw them into traps, combined with a kick and environments full of cacti, chasms, and other lethal objects that turned every arena into a playground for devising ever more bizarre ways to dispatch enemies. On Xbox One, the remaster offered improved graphics, a higher frame rate, and, new to this version, the ability to play as Duke Nukem in one of the game's campaigns, a nod to a crossover with another shooter legend and its trademark humor.
Full Clip Edition received a mixed but generally welcoming reception — praise focused mainly on the return of the game's original inventiveness, while criticism pointed out that at its core it was an older title without major gameplay innovations over the previous-generation version. Even so, the remaster reminded players how refreshing a shooter focused on style of killing rather than mere hit count could be, and it kept the game's legacy alive for a new console generation that might have missed the original. The game thus remains a popular choice for players who just want to relax and dispatch enemies in the most inventive way possible, without an overly serious tone. The skillshot system remains a frequently cited example of how to motivate players toward creativity instead of simply pulling the trigger.
Why play it: Thanks to the skillshot system rewarding inventiveness over sheer hit count, it's ideal for relaxed, lighthearted shooting of enemies.
