A remake of two skateboarding classics with the same controls and faithfully rebuilt tracks.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 is a remake of two skateboarding classics from the turn of the millennium that kept their controls intact while reworking everything else. The original tracks — from the warehouse through the school grounds to the mall — were rebuilt with modern graphics, but their layout stayed faithful to the original to the point that players with a memory of the era can find secret stashes blindfolded. Each level's objectives are completed in two-minute runs: collect letters, reach a target score, smash objects, or pull off a specific trick at a designated spot.

The centerpiece is the combo trick system, in which grinds, manuals, and spins link together into long chains, with the value of individual elements growing with combo length. The controls are responsive yet fair — with a bit of practice you can clear an entire level in a single unbroken run, an experience that keeps drawing people back to this series. On Xbox Series X|S, the current-gen version runs in high resolution with a 120-frames-per-second target, which genuinely helps a game built on precise timing. There's also a custom skatepark editor and character creation.

The soundtrack has always been a core part of the series' identity, and here too it combines original tracks from the late nineties with newer additions, so punk and hip hop keep the original's character alive. Reception was very favorable, and the game is often cited as an example of a remake done right: it respects the original feel of skating and adds only what helps. Today it remains the best way to relive an era when skateboarding games were among the most popular sports titles of all — and at the same time a fully functional modern arcade game you can play for ten minutes or entire evenings. The short length of individual runs makes it an ideal pass-the-controller game for two on a single console, competing for the highest score, with every failed attempt tempting you to try again. A collection of challenges, unlockable riders, and gear adds plenty of reasons to keep coming back even after finishing the main career, since perfecting a run through a track can be polished practically forever.
