One of the most acclaimed entries in the Tales of series; it first launched exclusively on Xbox 360.

Tales of Vesperia ranks among the most celebrated entries in the long-running Tales of series and, as one of the few major JRPGs, launched exclusively on Xbox 360 first, before an expanded port later arrived on PlayStation 3. The story follows Yuri Lowell, a cynical former knight living in the lower quarters of the city of Zaphias, who, after a series of unfortunate events, sets out on a quest for justice in a world powered by magical energy called aer, controlled by the ruling caste. Yuri is anything but a typical hero – he frequently chooses solutions that the protagonist of another JRPG would refuse, and it's precisely this tension between law and justice that holds the entire narrative together.

The game built on the beloved Linear Motion Battle System, enabling fluid real-time action combat combining physical attacks with special techniques called Artes that could be freely chained into long combos. Characters moved freely across the battlefield, blocked, dodged, and their team behavior could be set with strategies, so combat felt more like a fast action game than a menu selection. Special finishing blows that ended enemies with a flashy strike rewarded players who attacked from the right side at the right moment. A group of colorful companions, from the mercenary Judith to the mysterious Raven and the dog Repede, brought deeply developed relationships and personal story arcs, complemented by hundreds of optional character skits.

The hand-drawn visual style combined with cel-shaded 3D models created a distinctive and timeless aesthetic that ages far better today than the more realistic titles of the same generation. Critics especially praised the morally complex storytelling, in which both villains and heroes had understandable motivations, and the fluid combat system. Tales of Vesperia became one of the flagship JRPGs on Xbox 360 and is still ranked by genre fans among the best entries in the entire long-running series, a reputation further boosted by a later complete version released on modern platforms.
