Rune Factory Frontier
Rune Factory Frontier combines a traditional Harvest Moon-style farming simulation with elements of an action RPG – the player wakes up in a strange village with no memories and gradually builds a farm, grows crops, raises animals, and at the same time heads into caves and dungeons to fight monsters using swords, hammers, spears, or magic. It's precisely this combination of peaceful farming and action combat that gave rise to the entire Rune Factory series, derived from the Harvest Moon universe and aimed at players for whom pure farming simulation wasn't enough.
The daily routine consists of watering and harvesting crops, tending to farm animals, building relationships with villagers including the possibility of marriage and starting a family, and expeditions underground, where materials are gathered for upgrading tools, weapons, and farm equipment. Monsters caught in the dungeons can also, as in other entries of the series, be tamed and brought to the farm, where they help with fieldwork or accompany the player on further expeditions. The system is designed so the player can freely switch between peaceful country life and more adrenaline-fueled dungeon exploration, giving the game an unusually broad range of gameplay for a single title and keeping it engaging even after dozens of hours.
At the time of its release, Rune Factory Frontier was among the most content-rich RPGs on Wii and was valued especially for the sheer amount of content and the addictive loop of planting, harvesting, and fighting that could occupy players for dozens of hours without feeling repetitive. The graphics relied on a cute, colorful anime style, and the music complemented both the peaceful atmosphere of country life and the tension of cave expeditions. Even with the passage of time, the game is considered one of the finest entries in the entire series and a popular choice for players seeking a long-lasting, playable RPG with a farming undertone on Wii, one that plays well even without knowledge of the series' previous entries built on the Harvest Moon universe.
