Line Rider

Puzzle 2006 Boštjan Čadež ⏱ Short · up to ~3 h ⭐ Must-play🧩 Puzzle

Draw a track and watch the sledder ride it; the physics toy that conquered the internet.

Line Rider is one of the purest examples of how a simple idea can flood the entire internet. The player draws a line with a pencil — a track for a sledder to ride down — and then watches how the physics engine faithfully simulates the ride over hills, jumps, and turns exactly according to what was drawn. No score, no time limit, just the joy of drawing a track and the tension of whether the sledder will land on his feet at the end or crash into a rock.

Slovenian student Boštjan Čadež originally created the game as a personal experiment, but videos of people sharing their elaborate, several-minutes-long tracks quickly spread across YouTube and other video portals of the time, making Line Rider one of the first truly viral phenomena to connect a Flash game with online video culture. The community drew increasingly complex routes full of jumps, loops, and synchronized effects, competing to see who could create the most visually impressive ride.

The success led to official versions of the game, publishing projects, and further iterations, but the basic charm remained the same — an endless blank sheet of paper and physics that rewards every good idea. Line Rider is still remembered today as proof that a minimalist creation tool can be a full-fledged game in its own right.

Why play it: Ideal for anyone who just wants to draw and watch the result — no rules, just physics and your own imagination.
