A remaster of the beloved 3D platformer plus the new, compact open-world addition Bowser's Fury.

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury is a Switch package combining a remaster of the beloved Wii U platformer with an entirely new, compact open-world addition. The base game combines the structure of classic linear levels with three-dimensional movement and, as the first entry in the series, allows up to four players to play simultaneously as Mario, Luigi, Peach and cat-suited Toadette, with the key new feature being the Cat Suit, giving characters the ability to climb walls and attack with claws. The levels draw inspiration from previous 2D and 3D entries and offer a variety of mechanics from piano platforms to gravity balls. The Switch version also noticeably sped up character movement and added online co-op.

Bowser's Fury is a standalone adventure where dark energy transforms Bowser into a giant, furious Fury Bowser terrorizing the open island of Lake Lapcat. Mario here teams up with Bowser's son, Bowser Jr., who can be controlled by a second player, collects Cat Shines scattered across the island, and at regular intervals must face the giant Fury Bowser in battles reminiscent of kaiju films, where Mario temporarily grows to a similar size thanks to the Giga Bell. The whole island is a single continuous area with no loading, and the collected Cat Shines gradually change the water level and accessibility of individual areas, so the world transforms along with the player's progress.

This addition is much freer and more experimental than the main game and hinted at the direction Super Mario Odyssey, and the more open approach of the series in general, would later take. It's also an interesting technical experiment - Fury Bowser's incursions flood the scene with rain and red lighting and take place right in the middle of ordinary exploration, without a transition screen. The combination of a polished classic and an imaginative bonus made the package one of the best-reviewed platform titles on Switch, and many reviewers even called the shorter Bowser's Fury a more interesting and daring experience than the main game itself.
