Kirby's Dream Buffet
Kirby's Dream Buffet turns the pink puffball into a bakery attraction: four players take the form of ball-shaped Kirbys racing down short tracks inspired by cupcakes, cakes, and jam, collecting strawberries and trying to reach the finish line with the highest score possible. The game is a purely digital eShop release, built around short rounds lasting only a few minutes, and at first glance resembles a board-game-style minigame more than a classic platformer - and that's exactly its selling point. Alongside the main race, players can also take part in the "Feast" minigame, where the goal is to eat the most portions of food directly against opponents, and the "Rodeo Race" contest, which is mainly about speed and agility in an enclosed arena. The entire game world is styled as a giant bakery, so even the obstacles on the track take the form of icing, whipped cream, or drops of jam, giving the game a visual identity distinctly different from the rest of the series.
The three different game modes combine into an overall score once a match is finished, so the winner is decided more by a balanced performance across disciplines than by mastering just one of them perfectly. The controls are deliberately minimalist - direction and jump - so the game is accessible even to the very youngest or most casual players, while the fight for the last places in the field can still challenge more experienced players thanks to random power-ups and ever-changing tracks. Online and local multiplayer for up to four players makes it an ideal short activity for shared game nights, and individual rounds usually last only a few minutes, so it's easy to fit in a quick match between other tasks. As players keep playing, they also unlock cosmetic extras and costumes for their Kirby, giving the game a slight collectible dimension beyond the races themselves.
Why play it: Kirby's Dream Buffet is an ideal choice for quick, colorful, and uncomplicated matches with family or friends, where nobody needs to know how to do anything more than aim and jump, and yet every round plays out differently.
