Ghosts of Tabor
Ghosts of Tabor is a tactical extraction shooter by studio Combat Waffle Studios, being released gradually on Meta Quest through early access and drawing inspiration from realistic games like Escape from Tarkov brought into virtual reality. The player enters a dangerous area with limited gear, gathers loot, avoids or fights other players and AI opponents, and tries to reach the extraction point with everything gathered, while death means losing all unequipped gear and having to start with less. The inventory system, weapon maintenance, weapon modification and resource management are detailed and place emphasis on careful planning before every trip into the field.
On Quest, it is one of the most ambitious multiplayer survival titles, as it combines sprawling maps, realistic ballistics and a persistent economy with the performance limits of a standalone headset, which required numerous technical compromises and regular optimizations throughout development. The atmosphere is tense and raw, and the sound of footsteps and distant gunfire plays a key role in deciding whether to engage in confrontation or retreat to safety with the loot gathered.
Thanks to regular updates and growing content, the game has built a dedicated and active community that appreciates the tension of risky raids and the deep survival system, even though its early access state also brings imperfections and occasional technical issues. Ghosts of Tabor is now considered one of the most ambitious attempts to bring the extraction shooter genre into virtual reality and the main reason many players are waiting for its gradual completion. The personal stash system, where the player stores gathered gear and weapons between raids, gives the game a long-term sense of building up a base, similar to what players know from the PC original.
Why play it: For players drawn to the risk and deep survival system of extraction shooters, who can tolerate the imperfections and technical issues of an early access state.
