Persona 3 Reload
Persona 3 Reload is a complete remake of the 2006 JRPG that brings to PlayStation 5 the story of students secretly fighting Shadows during the Dark Hour, a hidden period that appears between one day and the next and that most people are not even aware of. The game combines a high-school social simulation, building relationships known as Social Links, and exploration of the endless, procedurally shifting Tartarus tower with turn-based combat in which the player assembles Personas representing the characters' psyches and exploits enemies' elemental weaknesses for effective combos and bonus All-Out Attacks. During the daily schedule the player divides limited free time between studying, hobbies, part-time jobs, and building friendships, which directly affects the strength and variety of their Personas and opens up new conversations with characters outside the main story.
Reload preserves the atmosphere of the original but completely reworks the graphics, animations, and part of the music into a modern form, while the iconic soundtrack remains the core of the game's melancholic yet energetic atmosphere, supplemented with newly recorded versions of some tracks and a reworked combat soundscape. On PS5 the title benefits from fast loading and smooth performance even in Tartarus's large interiors, which makes long play sessions easier between school, dating characters, and nightly expeditions into the tower, where the player gradually descends into ever more dangerous floors full of stronger Shadows.
At launch the remake was received very positively, as it made the acclaimed installment accessible to new players who had not experienced the original on PlayStation 2, while also confirming that the concept of alternating ordinary student life with a dark fight for survival still works flawlessly today. Persona 3 Reload is considered one of the most notable JRPG remakes of recent times and shows how strongly the series has influenced the entire genre, including many later games built on the combination of social simulation and combat system.
Why play it: For players who missed the original on PlayStation 2 — one of the most notable JRPG remakes of recent times, combining student life with a dark fight for survival.
