Dissidia Final Fantasy NT

Dissidia Final Fantasy NT brings characters from across the entire Final Fantasy series - from the Warrior of Light through Cloud Strife to Noctis - into 3-on-3 arena battles, combining the Bravery and HP damage system known from previous Dissidia entries. The winning team has to balance the roles of attacker, defender, and support player and make use of real-time combat in open arenas full of height differences and hiding spots.

This version was released worldwide in January 2018 for PlayStation 4 and was developed by Team Ninja, which brought to the series an emphasis on fast, technical combat and clearer team cooperation compared to the older PSP entries. Unlike previous Dissidia games, which were primarily single-player with an accompanying story, NT places its emphasis on online multiplayer and seasonal content with regularly added characters and cosmetic extras. The game also builds on the gameplay system of the arcade version of Dissidia Final Fantasy, from which it takes the foundation of a combat system adapted for consoles and a more accessible story mode for players outside Japan.

The story mode, titled Chronicles of Light, was not handed out all at once by Square Enix after release but was gradually expanded through free updates alongside new playable characters, which kept the game alive long-term even after launch and sets NT apart from earlier entries with a closed story on the disc. There are also leaderboards and seasonal online battles, thanks to which the game gradually turned more into a service with a steady stream of content than a title you finish once and put away.

Why play it: For Final Fantasy fans who want to see their favorite characters from across the series in team-based arena battles and don't mind that the game's focus lies in online multiplayer.
