The successor to Boneworks with swappable avatars - the character's weight and height change how you move.

Bonelab builds on the physics system of the previous game, Boneworks, and expands it with the ability to switch avatars mid-game, which affects the character's weight, height, and way of moving. The player moves through various environments full of puzzles, combat, and exploration, where each avatar change – from a light robotic figure to a heavy, slow one – changes how one interacts with the surroundings, giving the game a variety that most other physics-based VR titles lack.

The game retains the dark, industrial atmosphere of its predecessor, complemented by more colorful and stylized locations resembling test chambers and laboratory environments. Physical interaction with weapons and objects remains the core of the gameplay, with the developers further improving collision detection and hand behavior to feel more natural than in the previous installment. The soundtrack and sound design support the feeling of an isolated, semi-abandoned world that the player gradually uncovers while progressing through the chapters.

Bonelab was received as a solid sequel that develops the original game's unique physics mechanics and additionally offers extensive modification and custom-content creation options. Thanks to its open approach to mods, it became a popular platform for community creation of new levels and avatars, extending its lifespan far beyond the original campaign. A mod management tool built directly into the game made sharing community content easier and contributed to a long-term active player base. The sandbox mode, which allows free experimentation with objects, weapons, and avatars outside the main campaign, became one of the most frequently praised features, as it gives players room for their own creativity and improvisation without the constraints of the story line. The variety of avatars, from small and fast to large and slow, also shows how significantly changing one's own body can affect the sense of space, height, and physical strength during play, an experience a classic screen-based game cannot offer.

Why play it: For fans of the first game and newcomers alike who want to experiment in a sandbox and create custom content in addition to the campaign, thanks to extensive mod support.
