Worms Reloaded
Worms Reloaded from 2010 is the series' return to PC in a modernized form - it's built on the engine and content of the successful arcade title Worms 2: Armageddon from Xbox Live Arcade, but expands it with new weapons, cosmetic extras, and Steam Workshop support for custom maps and teams. It's the first entry in the series to be built from the ground up around digital distribution and community content as a core part of the game's longevity, instead of relying solely on a boxed release and one-time sale.
On PC, the game benefits from precise mouse controls, which are ideal for aiming artillery weapons, and from performance that allows smooth explosion animations and terrain destruction even with a large number of worms on screen at once. The Steam version also brought achievements, trading cards, and easy matchmaking with players from around the world, marking a shift toward a more lasting online community for a series previously known mainly for local multiplayer. Adjustable match rules - from weapon selection through turn length to terrain damage intensity - give PC players greater control over the style of play they prefer.
Content packs and expansions released after launch gave players a reason to come back months after release, whether in the form of retro graphic sets, new weapons, or cosmetic team customization. The Workshop also opened the door to fan-made maps and mods, extending the game's lifespan well beyond the original boxed content.
Game modes include both classic turn-based combat with a time limit and variants with different rules for terrain damage or weapon power, so experienced players can set up a match exactly to their taste. Easy friend connectivity via Steam also means a quick match can be arranged in a few clicks, without the complicated network setup required by older console versions.
Why play it: Worms Reloaded is a good choice for PC players who want a fresh, actively supported version of the classic turn-based worm warfare with convenient online multiplayer via Steam and the option to extend the game with community content from the Workshop.
