Worms Clan Wars
Worms Clan Wars from 2013 is a PC-exclusive affair - unlike previous entries in the series, it didn't launch simultaneously on consoles; the console counterpart, titled Worms Battlegrounds, arrived a year later as a separate title with its own content. Clan Wars builds on the foundation of Worms Revolution but adds a clan system, equipment crafting, and deeper customization of team appearance and gear, giving players a reason to invest time even outside individual matches.
The game runs exclusively on PC via Steam, which allows for quick updates and the addition of content in the form of packs with weapons, voices, and cosmetic sets. Mouse controls remain as precise as in previous PC entries, and the game also supports progress saved and linked to the player's Steam account, so you can return to your ongoing clan on any computer. The clan system also motivates players to team up with others and share progress, a concept the series' older entries didn't have at all.
A new crafting system lets players assemble gear from various materials gathered during matches, adding a layer of long-term progression that older entries in the series lacked - giving players a reason to keep playing beyond individual matches and watch their clan gradually grow.
The core turn-based combat doesn't change from Worms Revolution, so new players will find the same destructible terrain, the same emphasis on judging shot angle and power, and the same iconic weapon roster. Clan Wars thus works more as an add-on for players who want to pair the familiar core with a longer-term goal in the form of developing their own clan.
Because the game was built exclusively for PC, Team17 could afford to design the interface and menus specifically for mouse and keyboard, without compromises for porting to a gamepad. This shows, for instance, in the clarity of the crafting and clan management menus, where you need to click through several items at once.
Why play it: Worms Clan Wars will appeal to PC players who want to add equipment crafting and a clan system to the turn-based worm warfare, and don't mind that the game exists only as a computer title, with no console version under the same name.
