Polda 6

Adventura 2014 Zima Software Polda ⏱ Short · up to ~3 h

A return to the older, more popular entries after a weaker fifth installment; once again with Luděk Sobota.

Polda 6 brought the series about policeman Pankrác back into the spotlight after years of silence, when Zima Software, working with another team, decided to return to the older, more popular entries and appeal above all to longtime fans who, after the weaker fifth game, were unsure whether continuing the series still made sense. The gameplay again relies on the tried-and-tested point-and-click foundation — collecting and combining items in an inventory, moving through locations, and dialogue full of wordplay, complete with Luděk Sobota's signature voice acting as the main hero along with other familiar voices tied to the series since earlier entries. The creators' goal was to return to what fans had enjoyed about the first entries and experiment less with the more serious tone of the earlier episode, bringing back in full the series' typical humor built on exaggeration and puns.

Technically the game grew noticeably compared to Polda 5 — the graphics and scene design feel more elaborate, locations are more detailed, and the production visibly tried to respond to the criticism aimed at the weaker previous entry. The setting again combines everyday Czech reality with exaggeratedly comic situations that Pankrác stumbles into during his investigations. The audio remains built on voice acting and light music that round out the comedic atmosphere typical of the whole series since its beginnings. The return to an emphasis on humor and production quality was received considerably better by players and the domestic games press than the previous entry had been.

Polda 6 is now seen as a successful restart of the series after a weaker period — proof that it paid off for the domestic development team to listen to fan feedback and return to a tried-and-tested recipe. For observers of the Czech adventure game scene it's an interesting example of how trust with an audience can be rebuilt even with limited resources, and for loyal fans it remains one of the more beloved later entries in the whole series.

Why play it: For fans of the series it's one of the more beloved later entries — a successful restart proving that it paid off for the domestic team to listen to player feedback.
