Battlefield 2042

Akční střílečka 2021 DICE Battlefield ⏱ Long · ~10–30 h

A near future of climate wars and battles for up to 128 players on PC.

Battlefield 2042 set the series in a near future marked by climate disasters and global conflicts over resources, where the world has split into homeless factions fighting over the last usable territory — matched by the largest scale of battles in the series' history: on PC and the new console generation, up to 128 players fit into a single match on sprawling maps full of vehicles, aircraft, and dynamic weather. Instead of traditional military classes like Assault or Support, the game launched with so-called Specialists, individually named characters each with their own unique ability and personal commentary, a significant shift in philosophy from previous entries that players and reviewers reacted to with mixed feelings, criticizing the loss of team identity that the class system used to provide.

The maps also feature dynamic weather events like tornadoes or sandstorms that can shake things up mid-battle — scattering parked vehicles, knocking players off buildings, or obscuring the battlefield so much that the fight shifts somewhere else entirely. At launch the game lacked a traditional single-player campaign, but it did include the Battlefield Portal mode right away, letting players build their own matches with rules, weapons, and classes from older entries like Battlefield 1942, Bad Company 2, or Battlefield 3.

Why play: Appeals mainly to players who want the biggest possible large-scale chaos with vehicles, aircraft, and natural disasters in the middle of a firefight, not closed-off tactical fights on small maps. Anyone looking for the traditional class system and the smaller, tighter maps of older entries will find them at least partly in Portal mode — otherwise, 2042 is above all an experiment in scale.
