Final Fantasy VI Pixel Remaster is part of the series of remasters through which Square Enix re-released classic entries on modern platforms, including mobile phones, in 2021 and 2022. The sixth entry, originally released on the Super Nintendo in 1994, is considered by many fans the peak of the series' two-dimensional era - it features an extensive cast of playable characters with their own storylines, a darker tone centered on the villain Kefka, who becomes a god of destruction partway through the game and reshapes the entire world for the worse, and an opera scene still remembered today as one of the emotional high points of the entire genre.
