Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition
Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition brought to touchscreens one of the most acclaimed RPGs in the history of computer gaming, originally released in 2000. Beamdog prepared an enhanced version with bug fixes, expanded content, and an adjusted interface that tries to preserve the depth of a classic isometric RPG even on a screen significantly smaller than the one it was originally designed for, including the entire branching campaign and companions to recruit.
Touch controls are handled by a combination of tapping for movement and target selection with context menus for party commands; a complete interface overhaul was necessary due to the originally very dense layout of controls on a computer screen. The result is functional, though it requires patience – this is a game with pausable real-time combat, an extensive inventory, and dozens of hours of dialogue, which places greater demands on orientation on a small display than action titles do. That's precisely why a tablet or a connected physical keyboard and mouse are often recommended for playing today.
It's a one-time paid game with no ads, with a price matching the scope of the content rather than typical mobile titles. Baldur's Gate II is still considered one of the best RPGs ever, and the mobile version allows access to this legacy even without a computer, albeit with controls that take some getting used to.
Why play it: For players willing to invest time in a deep classic RPG with a rich story, ideally on a tablet or with a keyboard connected for clarity.
