Prince of Persia: Harem Adventures

Plošinovka 2003 Gameloft Prince of Persia ⏱ Short · up to ~3 h

Gameloft's platforming Prince of Persia spin-off with a harem theme and a lighter tone.

Prince of Persia: Harem Adventures introduced a lighthearted spin-off of the famous platforming series from Gameloft, the French publisher that specialized during the Java game era in bringing major franchises to mobile phones. Instead of the darker tone of the main series, the game bet on a lighter, humor-infused story set in a harem, while the core gameplay stayed true to the platforming roots, the prince jumps between platforms, dodges traps, and solves simple spatial puzzles.

Gameloft was one of the most prolific studios at the time when it came to adaptations and spin-offs of established franchises for mobile phones, and Harem Adventures well illustrates their approach, a smaller budget and simplified gameplay compared to the console originals, but an effort to preserve the recognizable core of the series. Keypad controls handled basic jumps and movement, exactly as the platforming genre on phones of the time required. The game was sold as a paid title through carrier Java stores, similar to most Gameloft games of the time, which didn't yet run on ads or in-app purchases.

The title fits into the broader picture of an era when major publishers were still testing how far an established franchise could be stretched onto a small display and limited hardware without losing its identity. Today the game is unavailable, J2ME distribution disappeared along with the phones it was aimed at.

Why play it: interesting for Prince of Persia fans curious about the series' quirky detours, though today you'll only realistically play it through an archive or emulation of a period phone.
