Viewtiful Joe
A stylish 2D beat-'em-up from Clover Studio, in which the movie enthusiast Joe turns into a superhero and gains the power to control time. Slowing down, speeding up and zooming in aren't just effects but key combat and puzzle mechanics. The comic-book cel-shaded look, tough difficulty and inventive design make Viewtiful Joe one of the most original action titles of its time. An uncompromising challenge for lovers of precise action with an unmistakable style.
Game 23 of 104 for Nintendo GameCube
The same title elsewhere (1)
The game was created as part of Capcom's Capcom Five project and first appeared on the Nintendo GameCube, where it ran smoothly with its distinctive cel-shaded visuals and the slow-motion and speed-up effects that the whole combat system is built around. Only after the GameCube failed to sell well did Capcom also release a PlayStation 2 version, adding a small amount of bonus content beyond the original. The core gameplay, difficulty and length remain the same across both versions, with only presentation details differing. The GameCube release counts as the original and reference platform, since the game was designed and tuned for it, but the PS2 version is an equally valid choice for anyone who prefers that console.
