The survival horror moves from Earth into space; a crew faces mutated dinosaurs.

Dino Crisis 3 is the Xbox-exclusive entry in the series, leaving behind the earthbound settings of previous games and moving the survival horror concept into space aboard the abandoned spaceship Ozymandias, where the crew encounters genetically engineered dinosaurs mutated by a long spaceflight. Playing as a soldier named Patrick, the player solves environmental puzzles, gathers resources, and faces dangerous creatures in the ship's enclosed, claustrophobic corridors, having to manage limited ammo and health kits typical of the survival horror genre. After unlocking specific abilities, the player could also temporarily switch to another playable character with different equipment and approach to the environment, adding some variety to an otherwise linear progression and forcing the player to choose tactics based on the currently available character.

Compared to previous entries in the series, the game places less emphasis on classic large dinosaurs and more on modified, often mechanized and unusually colored enemy forms, which, together with the sci-fi setting, significantly shifts the series' atmosphere away from prehistoric horror toward a cold, spacebound dread. Technically, the game leveraged the Xbox's power for lighting effects, reflections on metal surfaces, and the ship's sterile, enclosed environment, accompanied by tense, oppressive music typical of survival horror that heightened the feeling of isolation in an unfamiliar environment with no way out.

Reception at the time was mixed – fans of previous entries criticized the departure from the established concept and the simplified game mechanics, while the atmosphere of the enclosed spaceship setting was praised. Still, Dino Crisis 3 remains an interesting historical entry as one of the few genuinely exclusive horror titles on Xbox and a reminder of a bold, if not entirely successful, attempt to push an established series in a different, more daring direction.

Why play it: For fans interested in bold, if not entirely successful, experiments with an established series, Dino Crisis 3 remains an interesting entry as one of the few horror games exclusive to Xbox.
